How To Choose Between Canvas and Paper Prints
One of the number one questions we get asked is should I order a print or a canvas? Is one better than the other? Let's start by discussing each option and comparing the options.
PRINTING ON PAPER
Printing on paper is usually the cheaper option. The reason I say usually is because you will have to purchase a frame to hang and enjoy your art. The cost of frames varies greatly. Maybe you have a frame already, which definitely will bring the overall cost down. Paper varies as well. We use three different kinds of paper for our designs – fine art paper, photo luster, and archival matte paper. Let's talk about each one…
WATERCOLOR PAPER
Otherwise known as Fine Art Paper, it is an ultra-premium fine art paper that is printed using high-quality archival inks. This paper has the ultimate thickness and feel with a slight watercolor texture thus making it the perfect choice for our watercolor prints.
Archival Matte Paper
Our premium, heavyweight matte paper is printed using high-quality archival inks. It’s the perfect choice for our farmhouse backgrounds.
Luster Paper
Our premium, heavyweight luster paper is printed using high-quality archival inks. The satin finish has a slight gloss and is perfect for our photo prints.
All of our prints are printed on top-of-the-line printers using archival ink, so you can be certain your artwork will look incredible and last for generations
PRINTING ON CANVAS
Our premium polycotton canvas is also printed using high-quality archival inks. We offer two kinds of canvas wall art - rolled canvases as well as wrapped canvases.
Rolled Canvas
The rolled canvas is mounted on foam core and framed much like a paper print although there is no glass.
Wrapped Canvas
Wrapped canvases are stretched over solid pine stretcher bars, either .75” or 1.5”. Your artwork can wrap around the edges, or we can mirror the image onto the sides.
We also offer framing options for our canvases. Our float frames are made of quality wood, giving the canvas print the illusion of floating inside the frame. We offer float frames for both .75 and 1.50” canvases and come in a variety of sizes and colors.
SO WHICH ONE IS BETTER?
I always say that the choice between a paper print and a canvas is a personal decision. Many people prefer the wrapped canvas because of the texture in the canvas that brings the artwork to life. Canvases are also lightweight and a perfect choice for hanging over a bed. Canvases come in all sizes, but if you want something small, I recommend a print that can be framed. If you order an 8 x 10 canvas, you are getting something smaller than a sheet of paper that will be lost on the wall. You can increase the size of the print by adding a frame or a frame with a mat.
