Kitchen Design - Think Color & Style When Choosing Cabinets

Today I'll talk about color and style when remodeling a kitchen.

One of the first things you do whenever you remodel or redesign any space is think color.  Since the biggest ticket price in a kitchen remodel goes to the cabinets, we'll talk about cabinet color.  Kitchen cabinets come in a huge selection of colors - wood finishes from unfinished wood to dark wood, painted finishes from white to black and glazed and distressed. Whatever color you decide upon, remember that you are going to have to live with it for a very long time!

Next choose style.  All cabinet companies have a huge selection of cabinet styles from traditional to contemporary to somewhere in between.  You have raised panels, recessed panels and flat panels.  You have full overlay doors to partial overlay doors.  Simple or elaborate, the decision is up to you.  Just remember to take into consideration the overall style of the home inside and outside when deciding upon style.

Here's a hint of the look we're going for...

Yes, we're staying with white.  These cabinets from Thomasville are made of maple and have a partial overlay door with a simple recessed panel.  White will never go out of style and it's worked for us for the past 12 years so we're thinking it will work for us for the next 12 years and more!

Once you decide upon those things you are ready to think countertops.  There are many options available for every budget.  My next blog will discuss the many different choices that are out there.

Thanks for stopping by...

Until next time,

Susan Newberry

Hi, I’m Susan! I’ve spent the last 10 years building my online company. I’ve always loved everything to do with design. In fact, after raising my kids, I decided to go to school and get my degree in Interior Design. While running my own interior design company, I started teaching and found that teaching was what I really loved. Combine that with Interior Design and well, you could say I was on cloud nine. I always loved the technical side of design which led me to graphic design and after studying graphic design, I was encouraged to open an Etsy shop to sell some of my creations. With my attention to detail and being somewhat of a perfectionist, graphic design made perfect sense. In December of 2018, I decided to retire from teaching and devote myself full time to my business and I haven’t looked back since! I love designing art for the home and would love to create something special for you.

It’s true what they say, “Love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life.”
