How to Start a Business Part 3 - Creating a Personal Brand

How-to-start-a-business-3.jpg

I hope you enjoyed my first two installments of how to start a business. If you missed it, you can check them out here.

Today as promised I’ll talk about branding and promoting your business.

First let’s define the word branding. Branding means to develop a unique professional identity that sets you apart from others in your industry.

So how exactly do I do that?

IDENTIFY YOURSELF: First and foremost, you must know who you are and who you aren’t. Once you identify who you are it will be much easier to identify who your customers are. Define your goals and objectives.

Create a unique logo and use it on everything - your business card, website, blog, online store, etc..

IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET MARKET: Next identify your target audience and build your brand with them in mind.

DON’T FORGET TO SELF PROMOTE: Promote yourself through a website, blog or other means. Purchase a domain name and create a website. There are so many options out there to make it easier for you do this. I chose Squarespace but there is also Wix, Weebly, Shopify, and others. Research carefully so you know what you are getting into. Blog regularly to keep people interested and invite them to sign up to stay in touch.

SOCIAL MEDIAL: Create a presence through social media. Provide links to your Facebook, Twitter, Intstagram and/or Linkedin pages on your website or blog. This provides people with multiple ways to get in touch with you.

NETWORKING: Don’t discount the importance of networking. Join organizations to help with your business. Befriend others with similar interests so you can build off each other.

I hope that helped if you are contemplating or just beginning to start a business. If you have some other tips, please feel free to share them below.

Next time I’ll share what I have learned over the years since starting my Etsy business. So be sure to sign up below so you won’t miss it.

Thanks for stopping by.

Until next time…
