Is Working From Home Good For You?

Are you self-employed? Are you thinking of giving up your day job to spend more time with your business? Are you thinking about transitioning to remote work, or are you weighing your current situation? The decision to work from home depends on personal preferences, job requirements, and individual work habits. While some people thrive in a remote work environment, others may struggle with motivation and isolation. Here are some key factors to consider before making the transition:

Your Personality

Are you self-disciplined and capable of working independently? Do you prefer social interactions, or are you more comfortable working alone?

Job Requirements

Is remote work an option for your role, or is physical presence required at the workplace? Not every job lends itself to remote work.

Work Environment

Do you have a quiet and comfortable space to work from home without distractions? The best type of work environment is one that you create specifically for your needs. When I first started selling artwork online, I dedicated a small corner of my bedroom for that purpose, and it worked for a while. Later, I moved to the dining room, and eventually, I needed a larger office. Fortunately, we were moving, and the upstairs loft became my new office space. It has turned out to be the perfect workspace.

Technology Access

Do you have a reliable internet connection and the necessary tools to perform your job effectively? Consider whether your home setup allows for a comfortable and productive workspace. A good internet service is essential, as are computers, printers, and sufficient space to do your job efficiently and correctly.

Working from home comes with its own set of advantages and challenges. While the flexibility, cost savings, and productivity benefits make it appealing, the potential downsides, such as isolation, communication difficulties, and work-life balance issues, must also be considered.

Ultimately, the best approach may be a hybrid model, combining the benefits of both remote and in-office work. As businesses continue to adapt to changing work environments, employees should assess their own needs and preferences to determine whether working from home is the right fit for them.

Hi, I’m Susan! I’ve spent the last 10 years building my online company. I’ve always loved everything to do with design. In fact, after raising my kids, I decided to go to school and get my degree in Interior Design. While running my own interior design company, I started teaching and found that teaching was what I really loved. Combine that with Interior Design and well, you could say I was on cloud nine. I always loved the technical side of design which led me to graphic design and after studying graphic design, I was encouraged to open an Etsy shop to sell some of my creations. With my attention to detail and being somewhat of a perfectionist, graphic design made perfect sense. In December of 2018, I decided to retire from teaching and devote myself full time to my business and I haven’t looked back since! I love designing art for the home and would love to create something special for you.

It’s true what they say, “Love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life.”
