Working From Home

Working from home has been a dream come true for me.  Who knew that when I opened my Etsy store over 10 years ago, it would become a full-time job!

Since Covid, more and more people are working from home. According to the US Census, 4.5 million people were already working from home before Covid hit. We know that these figures grew substantially once Covid hit. In the middle of 2020, 42% of all US workers worked from home. (Stamford). As Covid numbers began to fall, people still enjoyed working from home. In fact, according to Indeed, remote workers tend to work longer hours and take fewer breaks than those who go into an office. Surprising is the news that productivity is higher for those working from home than those working in an office setting. In fact, according to Owl Labs, those working from home are 47% more effective.

With the increases in technology, it is easier than ever to stay connected.

Working from home has many advantages over working in an office.

  • There is no commute, so you save money on gas.

  • You can work long hours (can also be a disadvantage).

  • You save money on clothes and shoes. You can even work in your pajamas!

  • You can spend more time with family.

  • Productivity is increased.

  • You can work in a space that’s yours.

While there are loads of advantages when you work from home, working from home has its share of disadvantages too.

  • Loneliness and isolation are concerns for those working from home, especially if they live alone.

  • You can work long hours if you don’t find the right balance.

  • It can be hard to keep work and home separate.

How to be successful working remotely:

  • Create a comfortable workspace. Have a quiet space to work with a comfortable chair. Personalize your space.

  • Stay organized whether you are able to devote a whole room to work or just a small space, the key to being successful is to be organized.

  • Take breaks as needed. Get up and walk. Schedule exercise time.

MY OFFICE SPACE

It looks like working from home is here to stay, if not full-time then at least part time as some companies are requiring their workers to come in a few days a week.

If you own your own small business like me, then working from home is the norm and not the exception.

Hope you enjoyed this week’s blog. Have a great week!

Until next time,
