According to Forbes, one in five Americans work from home and that number is expected to increase by 63% in the next five years. Amazing! 30 million Americans work from a home office at least one day a week. I'm one of those 30 million who work from home and I love it! Working from home has its advantages and disadvantages. Finding a space to work can be a challenge and organizing that space can be even more challenging. Whether you have a dedicated home office or have carved out a small space that you call your own, why not make it both pretty and functional?
My Six Favorite Tips for Organizing Home Offices
Organization Tip 1: Having files within reach. Using vertical files will help keep you organized and keep all your papers at arm's reach.
Organization Tip 2: Carve out a space wherever you can like this office under the stairs. This one has it all and looks pretty too.
Organization Tip 3: Here is a great idea for a shared office.
Organization Tip 4: Make it pretty and functional using these pretty bookcases from Ikea when storage is an issue.
Organization Tip 5: Have a comfortable chair and while you're at it, make it pretty. This one's from Ballard Designs.
Organization Tip 6: Don't forget lighting. According to ASID, 68 percent of employees complain about the lighting situation in their offices. Lighting is very important to work efficiently and productivity. There is a fine line between selecting lighting that is too dim and lights that are too harsh. Don't forget that natural lighting is the best type of lighting but be sure to provide additional forms of lighting.
