Decorating Tips for an Inviting Bathroom

"If I want to be alone, some place I can write, I can read, I can pray, I can cry, I can do whatever I want - I go to the bathroom." ~Alicia Keys

Is your bathroom a sanctuary or is it a place you hate to visit?  Is it dull and boring or is it bright and inviting?  There is no reason why you can't make your bathroom bright and stylish with just a few simple tips:

1. Update your light fixtures. Good lighting will create the illusion of more space in a small bathroom. I love this idea by Bless'er House. Edison bulbs are a must if you are going to do this!LF-2

2. Paint your vanity. Check out Bower Power to see the before pictures.  It is quite a transformation!

3. Paint your ceiling. This is something I bet you never thought of.  But take a look at this bathroom from Apartment Therapy. Just remember if you paint the ceiling darker than the walls, it will give the illusion of a lower ceiling but if you paint the ceiling a lighter color, it will give you the illusion of a higher ceiling.

4. Add artwork. Make it fun.  If you are decorating a child's bathroom, use child-friendly are like this one from my store.

5. Add accessories. Here is a super simple idea from Shabby Chic Ireland.  Just put soap in a pretty bowl.  Not only will it look good but the bathroom will smell good too.

6. Change out or trim out your mirror. This is from My Country House.  It looks like they painted out the vanity.  I love the lighting too!

7. Change your shower curtain. Here's a DIY color block shower curtain from Martha Stewart.  The fun thing is that you can make it any colors you want.

8. Replace your rug. Here's a cute Chevron bath mat from West Elm. A great idea from Teal & Lime is to sew two together to get a runner.

9. Get organized. OK I know it's easier said than done.  But a few well placed shelves or an old thrift store find filled with towels and accessories like this one from The Farmhouse Porch adds a touch of shabby elegance to a bathroom.

I hope you found some good ideas for your bathroom.  For me, I'm going to update my light fixture with paint and mason jars. Remember whatever you choose to do, if your bathroom is small, keep it simple.  Too much of a good thing is never a good thing.

Until next time...
